The one way to ge the creative juices flow is not to shoot anything.

Use the time to reflect and review what you have done. I have and the results are quite a shock but you can see a progression over the last three years since I started doing all this seriously.

The problem I find with press/editorial work is that it's very very easy to get stuck in a basic groove of flash on camera, get the shot, get the names and get out. Towards the end of my freelance time at the Constitution I would hang around a little longer to get something different.

Rosemary Wright was a good example of this. The job didn't take more than 10 minutes but I came out with two very different shots. There was the "play it safe for the paper" shot and then the more creative one. Which one did the editor pick.... yup the one that looked different.

So I haven't taken a picture in two weeks now and I'm starting to get very itchy fingers.

Why would you think shooting for the paper would encourage you to get the shot with flash on camera, get the names and get out?

Surely if there's a chance your name will be under it, you'd make the effort?

I know the chronic dont exactly know how to use a picture, and im not sure they give a crap about pics in general, but its no excuse not to make sure that every picture you shoot, is the very best it possibly can be...

I drop in on your blog regularly, as your the only other local i know who blogs! keep it up, and sure get in touch.

Because that's usually how it is. Whenever I can I try to do the best shots I can. Remember though that there's usually another couple of photographers waiting to do their pic as well.

If I had time I'd hold back and take my picture last (I also get to see all the other poses and mix things up a bit from there).

Thanks for dropping in on the blog... I'll be in touch, just make yourself known! :)

Ahh Chris, it's you. I've seen CR at the end of pic codes :)

All depends on the job doesn't it and when the next call is. If there's time I hold back.

I've had a couple of months to shake off "press shooting" and can concentrate on shooting what I want to. No pressure, much more enjoyable.

Give us a shout anytime.
